Top 10 Macrame Projects to DIY This Summer

If you still haven’t been caught up in the Macrame Madness, then you don’t know what you are missing on! There are so many things you can do by simply using this antique technique. All you need is inspiration and ideas, but first, let us tell you a bit more about Macrame.

Macramé or macrame is a form of textile-making using knotting rather than weaving or knitting. Its primary knots are the square knot and forms of “hitching” – full hitch and double half hitches.

The word itself comes from the 13th Century Arabic weavers’ word “migramah,” meaning “Fringe.” Although even the Babylonians and Assyrians used macrame, it became extremely popular in the Victorian era. It regained popularity during the 1970s and early 1980s and has been a favorite art/craft ever since.

As for what you can do by using macrame, the possibilities are endless, really. From wall hangings, articles of clothing, bedspreads, small jean shorts, tablecloths, draperies, plant hangers, and other furnishings to necklaces, anklets, and bracelets.

We have selected 10 macrame projects to inspire you this summer. Tell us which is your favorite in the comments section below.
