Is your guest bedroom looking more like a storage space than home away from home? If you have guests on the way, there’s no need to stress.
Whether you want your guest bedroom to feel like a luxurious hotel room or a cosy sanctuary, there are a few things you can do to make it inviting for your loved ones.
Here are some of the best ways you can create a relaxing guest bedroom that your guests and loved ones will never want to leave.
Provide A Comfortable Bed
The most important part of any bedroom is the bed – this goes for the guest bedroom, too. After all, you want your guests to be as comfortable as possible when they bunk down for the night. Make sure the bed in your guest bedroom is in the best possible shape. Check the mattress is clean, doesn’t smell, and that it doesn’t sag or make noise – you may find you need to invest in a new one.
The next step is to make it with fresh bedding. Buy a new sheet set in either a neutral colour, or a colour that you know your guests or loved ones staying with you will like. Buy two sets, so you have some spare ones available, in case of any spills. You should keep your duvet covers clean by washing them regularly. Not only will this make your guests feel more comfortable, it also shows that you care about their well-being and comfort.
Once you’ve made the bed with the sheet set, add a duvet and throw to complete the look. This not only makes the bed look comfy and relaxing, but can also keep your guests and loved ones warm if they’re staying during the cooler months.
Provide Space For A Suitcase
The first thing guests want to do when they arrive at their accommodation is put their suitcase down, so make sure you provide a space. Set aside a corner in the bedroom where their suitcase can stand, or place a luggage rack to put it on. If you don’t have or want to buy a luggage rack, a chair or even a small table will do the trick.
Provide Hanging And/Or Drawer Space
Once your guests or loved ones have set their suitcase down, they’ll want to unpack a little, so you’ll need to provide some hanging and/or drawer space. If your guest bedroom has a built-in wardrobe, clear it out to make room for your guest’s things. If you can’t, leave at least enough hanging space for five hangers and/or two drawers.
If you’re looking to invest in some new furniture for the guest bedroom, a small set of drawers with a clothes rack beside it is ideal. It will provide your guests and loved ones with the space their clothing needs during their stay, without taking up too much space.
Provide A Practical Bedside Table
There’s nothing more annoying than curling up in bed and having nowhere to pop your phone or glass of water. A practical bedside table is a must-have for your guests.
Keep it simple on top, leaving plenty of room for your guest’s things. You may want to include helpful information like the WiFi password. Make sure there’s a wall socket close so they can recharge their electronics.
Provide Plenty Of Privacy
When your guests and loved ones are staying away from home, they’re going to need and want privacy, so make sure your guest bedroom provides as much of it as possible.
The easiest way to do this is by assessing the curtains or blinds currently hanging by the window. Are they getting older and frayed? Do they fully close? Are they see-through? If you answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, you should replace them with blackout curtains, so no-one living or walking nearby can see them, and they come with the added benefit of blocking out sunlight, which is especially important if they want a sleep-in.
Leave Some Goodies On The Bed
For that final touch and to go the extra mile, leave a basket of goodies on the bed for your guests and loved ones. A well-rounded basket of goodies can include tea bags and coffee sachets, their favourite snacks and toiletries. If you sit the basket on the bed with a couple of fresh towels, every guest or loved one who stays over will love you even more for that extra bit of thoughtfulness.
By providing a comfortable bed, space for luggage and clothes, a place to sit comfortably, a bedside table with basic necessities, much-needed privacy, and extra goodies, you’ll create a guest bedroom so inviting that your guests and loved ones will never want to leave. You’ll definitely be the host with the most.
